Centrally located in San Diego, Downtown San Diego is bordered by San Diego Bay to the west and southwest, Bankers Hill, Middletown, and Balboa Park to the north, Sherman Heights and Golden Hill to the east, and Barrio Logan and Logan Heights to the southeast.

Located minutes from the San Diego Airport, there are endless things to do and see in downtown San Diego with all of it being accessible by foot or by public transportation. The streets are lined with historic and modern buildings that are a filled with: live-work lofts, hotels, high-rises, condos and apartments, restaurants, night clubs, roof-top bars, shops, local businesses and boutiques.

Petco Park: home to the San Diego Padres baseball team Petco Park is located between 7th and 10th Avenues, south of J Street. The “Park at the Park”, a grassy berm sloping above the outfield fence, is open during game time, allowing fans to sit and watch games for $5. When no games are being played, the Park at the Park serves as a free local park for area residents. Fans in concession stands, in bars, restaurants or wandering the stands can watch the action on 244 high-definition TV monitors and an additional 500 standard-definition TVs.

USS Midway Museum:  Explore nearly 50 years of world history aboard the longest-serving Navy aircraft carrier of the 20th century.  USS Midway Museum offers self-guided audio tours, over 60 exhibits and 29 restored aircrafts making it an all-day adventure filled with fun for the whole family.

Seaport Village:  Head to the waterfront and explore over 50 shops, 17 restaurants and an abundance of outdoor entertainment and vendors in Seaport Village which is adjacent to San Diego Bay.

Maritime Museum:  The Maritime Museum of San Diego boasts one of the largest collections of historic ships including the world’s oldest active ship, Star of India. Public tours of the collection and exhibits are available daily.

Little Italy:  Adventure to Little Italy district which is known is trademarked as “A hip historic urban neighborhood”. Enjoy delicious, authentic Italian food, shopping, public art displays, Saturday Farmer’s Market and leash-free dog parks.

Shopping:  The sky is the limit when it comes to shopping in downtown San Diego. Explore Horton Plaza’s maze-like outdoor mall that looks like it came straight out of a Dr. Seuss book or stop into the many boutiques along the streets of the Gaslamp Quarter District.

Nightlife:  San Diego is known to sizzle with exciting nightlife and if roof-top bars and chic nightclubs are what you are looking for, then downtown San Diego is the place you will want to be once the sun goes down.

San Diego Convention Center:  The San Diego Convention Center is the primary convention center and is located in the Marina District of San Diego on Harbor Drive. Known for incredible panoramic views of San Diego Bay and five-star service, the San Diego Convention Center is the home to countless conventions, meetings, events small and big including the world-renown Comic Con which boasted over 130K attendees in 2015 which of course did not include the thousands of other Comic Con fans who didn’t attend but took over the city in this 4 day event.



Three freeways are prominent in downtown San Diego:

Highway 163 ends in downtown with the southbound lane of the freeway becoming 10th Ave and 11th Ave becoming the northbound lane at Ash Street.

Interstate 5 passes above the downtown area and is accessible from selected streets outside of the actual downtown area or at the intersection of 10th/11th and Ash.

Highway 94 enters downtown from the east, with westbound 94 becoming F Street and G Street becoming eastbound 94.

The downtown area is served by the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System, the San Diego Trolley. There is also a commuter train linking downtown with northern San Diego County, called the Coaster, which also stops at communities along the San Diego County coastline, as well as the Amtrak passenger rail system.

Parking is somewhat of a challenge is done through paid parking lots or metered street parking. Compared to other San Diego neighborhoods downtown San Diego is quite urban and has a higher level of pedestrians and persons accessing public transportation.

There are bicycle taxis, water taxis, taxis, Uber, bus lines, smart car stations and bike rental stations throughout the neighbor and are all easily accessed from any street.
