Fiesta Island Dog Park | 150-Acre Off-Leash Dog Beach Voted “Best Dog Park in the Country”

This excellent off leash dog beach in San Diego provides a great opportunity for your furry friend to freely roam around the ample, fenced areas along the green meadows and sandy beach. This peninsula in Mission Bay has even been voted Best Dog Park in the Country by USA TODAY 10 Best and hosts an array of fun events throughout the year like the MWF Fiesta Island Min Pin Dog Walk.

The water at Fiesta Island Dog Park– for the most part, is calm and waveless. For security reasons, you can choose between the park’s 150-acre or 60-acre fenced areas for your adventurous dog to roam around the play space either off leash or on leash. Take note that there are no public facilities or amenities available on Fiesta Island due to the undeveloped nature so make sure to bring plenty of extra water for your thirsty pup.

Main Beach off-leash times:

  • Day after Labor Day through June 15: dawn to 8 a.m. only. During these days, they are allowed on-leash after 8 a.m.
  • Between June 16 and Labor Day: no dogs are allowed on Main Beach.

North Beach off-leash times: Off-leash hours vary by the time of year.

  • The day after Labor Day through June 15: dogs can be leash-free at any hour.
  • June 16 through Labor Day: dogs can be off-leash from dawn to 8 a.m. and on-leash during other hours.

La Jolla Dog Beach | On-Leash Dog Beach in San Diego that’s Perfect for Families to Take Their Dog

La Jolla Dog Beach is an on-leash dog-friendly beach in San Diego located in Ocean Beach. There are plenty of fun beach activities available for kids and families as well as wide open space for your lucky canine to get some exercise. This smart seaside area has a lively atmosphere and is perfect if you love people-watching due to the wide variety of dogs and people passing by.

La Jolla Shores Beach extends a mile along the Pacific Ocean which allows your pup to splash in the gentle waves, sniff tons of seaweed, and make new friends. This is located where the sand meets the mouth of the San Diego River. You are advised to keep your canines north of the Ocean Beach Bike Path and avoid the area between the path and the beach pier.

The highly popular Del Mar Dog Beach in San Diego is also known as “Dog Beach” due to being the only area dogs are allowed off-leash on Del Mar city beaches. Excluding the summer months, dogs can run freely from 29th Street north all the way to Solana Beach. Dogs are allowed without a leash from the day after Labor Day until June 15th– so about nine months of the year.

This dog beach provides soft sand, shallow water, and an overall pristine beach. There are also volleyball courts, trails, lifeguards, toilets, and a river mouth that’s popular with surfers. One of the most notable characteristics of this San Diego dog-friendly beach is the well-kept memorial garden that’s dedicated to doggie friends.

All San Diego dog friendly beaches require that your fur friends are fully vaccinated, respond when you call them, wear collars with current licenses, are picked up after, and have a back-up leash with their owners.
