Where Is Paradise Hills, San Diego?
Paradise Hills is part of the Skyline-Paradise Hills community located in the southeastern part of the city of San Diego. The Skyline-Paradise Hills community includes Paradise Hills, North and South Bay Terraces, Lomita, Jamacha, and Skyline.
The neighborhood is bordered by the unincorporated community of Lincoln Acres in National City to the west, Bonita, Bay Terraces, and Alta Vista. It’s just 5 miles from Chula Vista and less than 9 miles from downtown San Diego.
The community’s boundaries are Paradise Valley Road to the north, Rachael Avenue to the west (the boundary between National City and San Diego), State Route 54 to the south (the boundary between San Diego and Bonita), and Dusk Drive and Potomac Street to the east. I-805 is very close for an easy commute to surrounding areas.
Paradise Valley is the major geographic feature of the area. This large canyon runs east to west, with Paradise Creek running out to the San Diego Bay.

Paradise Hills dates back to the 1920s when the first subdivision was planned. The community got its name for its rolling hills overlooking Paradise Valley. It’s always had a large Navy presence of active and retired military members.
Most housing was developed starting in the 1940s to create affordable housing for military and defense workers. In 1952, the Bay View Naval Housing community was opened. Paradise Gardens is another naval housing community just outside Paradise Hills in the Bay Terraces neighborhood.
With its proximity to Naval Base San Diego, as well as Coronado, Paradise Hills is a popular community for Navy families. It’s also popular with retirees and young families thanks to its safe, quiet environment. Young professionals appreciate the neighborhood’s proximity to downtown and major employment centers.
Today, there are 67,332 Skyline-Paradise Hills residents. There are about 16,700 people living in Paradise Hills alone in 4,500 households. It’s one of many diverse neighborhoods in San Diego with a population that’s 48.5% Hispanic, 19.1% White, 19.5% Asian, 8.6% Black or African American, and 3.1% two or more races. The rec center offers summer camp, youth sports, and classes like dance, gymnastics, and skateboarding classes plus fitness classes.
The adjacent Paradise Hills Park has one of the latest off-leash dog parks in San Diego with separate fenced areas for small and large dogs. The Paradise Hills Park is also home to the Paradise Hills Native Garden, a native plant demonstration garden created by community members who obtained funding for the project in 2021.
The Paradise Hills Skatepark is a 7,000-square-foot facility with above-ground ramps and rails, bleachers, and some equipment available for rent.
The Paradise Hills Branch Library began as a single room in the Paradise Hills Elementary School in 1946.
