Where Is Mountain View in San Diego?
The Mountain View neighborhood location is in the southeastern area of the City of San Diego. It’s bordered by National City and the Southcrest neighborhood to the south past National Avenue, Lincoln Park to the east, and the neighborhoods of Logan Heights and Stockton to the west. To the north, the community abuts Mount Hope Cemetery and the Greenwood Memorial Park Cemetery, two of the largest cemeteries in the city. I-805 borders the community on the east, and I-15 runs along the western edge.
The main roads in Mountain View are Ocean View Boulevard and Imperial Avenue. Mountain View is due west of San Miguel Mountain in Chula Vista, just 2.5 miles from Naval Base San Diego on the San Diego Bay. It’s only 4.5 miles from Mountain View to downtown San Diego and just 6 miles to Coronado.

Mountain View History & Overview
Mountain View was named for its clear San Miguel Mountain views thanks to its location on a plateau, one of the flattest areas in this part of the city. The City of San Diego acquired the Mountain View Park area in 1874 and dedicated it in 1914. It’s become the main focal point of the area and a community gathering spot. Improvements were made in 1915 and in 1982 until the park had almost 8 acres of turf and 67 acres of natural area, shrubs, and dirt infield as well as multi-purpose courts, tennis courts, and sidewalks.
Today, the San Diego Mountain View community is a densely packed collection of residential neighborhoods surrounded by a major retail center, sports complex, and picturesque cemeteries with its namesake park in the center. There are more than 15,000 people living in Mountain View, San Diego, in about 4,000 households. Families make up 82% of the neighborhood’s households. It’s a diverse community that’s 77% Hispanic, 12% Black or African American, 5% white, 4% Asian, and 2% two or more races.
The Mountain View area of San Diego is known for its laid-back atmosphere and strong sense of community. There are many families with young children living in Mountain View, San Diego thanks to the neighborhood’s many parks and great amenities.

Mountain View in San Diego is a paradise for families with children, dog owners, and nature lovers. Residents can enjoy walking through Greenwood Memorial Park, a beautiful cemetery with landscaped grounds at the edge of the neighborhood.
Looking for recreation? The Wilie Henderson Sport Complex offers football, soccer, basketball, volleyball, baseball, and softball with youth and adult leagues plus free movies in the park during the summer. The Mountain View Community Center is the crown jewel of the community with youth sports, a weight room and gymnasium, a computer lab, a teen center, activities, and programs like kickboxing aerobics. It hosts the spring egg hunt and Peace in the Park every year. The surrounding Mountain View Park is a popular place to take dogs on a walk or let the kids burn off some energy.
Nearby, the Jackie Robinson Family YMCA has served southeast San Diego since 1943. The Y offers a great aquatics complex, community center, and gym with youth sports, a senior fitness program, summer camp, and swim lessons.
You’ll enjoy nearby shopping at the Imperial Marketplace shopping center and the nearby Southcrest Park Plaza which is home to Northgate Market, a popular supermarket in the area. You’ll find most restaurants in Mountain View, San Diego in or near the Imperial Marketplace and along Ocean View Blvd and National Ave. Burros & Fries Marketplace is a casual counter-serve grill with popular Mexican dishes like tostadas and tacos. Schools in the San Diego Mountain View Neighborhood
Families living in the Mountain View neighborhood of San Diego are served by the San Diego Unified School District. Students in the eastern section attend Knox Middle School then Lincoln High School. The western area is served by the new Logan Memorial Education Campus (LMEC) for grades 6-12.
